Ok, purists! This is some of the most beautiful country in the world! You want to see a lot of wildlife – Elk, Mule and Whitetail deer and Pronghorn Antelope? It will be a 45 minute to two hour trip to the Southwest from Metro Denver, but what spectacular country for a ranch, ranchette, vacation home or other horse property, and you may be snowed in come winter depending where you are! A lot of the land is already State and Pike National Forests, so there will never be a lot of it available. It includes ‘Southpark,’ the legendary farming and ranching area in Colorado, and the namesake of the goofy and highly successful cartoon series, “Southpark.” For a nice day trip, take a drive out west on US 285 to Bailey, then Grant, climb up and over Kenosha Pass, the old route of the narrow guage Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad, and on to the neat town of Fairplay. You can continue on toward Buena Vista, passing the Antero Reservoir and hit US 24 shortly before Buena Vista. Turn left here and continue back almost due east to Colorado Springs. You have completed a loop of Park County!
